Happy New Year!

Hope y’all are well. Last year was a big one for the alliance, so a massive thank you to all those involved and helping to make it a success. 2018 is shaping up well so far so keep up the amazing work and let’s keep it groovin. But first things first, let’s focus on growing Vegan Organic (VEGANIC), remember the main quote:
In our society, growing food [together] has become the most radical of act. It is truly the only effective protest, one that can and will overturn the corporate powers that be. By the process of directly working in harmony with nature, we do the one thing most essential to change the world, we change ourselves!
~Jules Dervaes
GARDEN TO TABLESo what are we waiting for? Let’s study up and help make this a reality, let’s GROW what we eat, KNOW what we eat and help nourish those in need. We’ve got two large allotment plots to work with, so please get involved and help sustain and nurture our growing community. Why not start by helping gather up some woodchip, leaves, and grass cuttings to finish of hugelkultur?  All are welcome on any day, please let us know when you’re free… also lookout for updates via the facebook garden page. Some exciting projects lined up for the garden this year, including collaborations with Pause 4 Thought & The Happy Caterpillar to bring lots of rawsome goodness, and intrigue for the younger ones.
Also a big thank you to those who are helping raise funds for the project, as a result we’re able to acquire the tools and equipment we need, moreover…. wait for it… wait for it… at long last we’ve got a big bad kiss-mi-arse van that makes the A-Team look like the B-Team, so lots more tree planting ammunition now, watch out!! But thankfully the van has made it much easier to manage the @ahimsaallotment and facilitate various projects/events.
Our next assignment looks like CALAIS later this month, delivering much needed aid and volunteering our time for refugees in France. I’m keen to see what the potential is for growing food over there, so if anyone is clued up about the climate and potential food growing there please get in touch. There may be a space available if anyone is interested? Also if anyone who has transport is willing to drive over with us please get in touch ASAP? We need to ensure that travel costs are covered and that the van is in tip top condition so if anyone can help with this please get in touch. We’ll be accepting food and clothes donations throughout this month so again if anyone is able to help please get in touch, donations can be dropped off or collected. Also if anyone is able help with clothes sorting and selection (clothes for homeless, clothes for refugees etc), we have bags of clothes to sort through before the trip, so please come lend a hand as soon as you can?!
As some of you know things have slowed down with the great vegan feast, to the disappointment of many, however we’re still keen to support the chapel in whatever way we can, especially in ‘dealing with poverty’ – we’ve learned much over the past four years and feel that we ought to meet up soon (maybe in early February?) to discuss how we can best serve those in need. Again anyone who is keen to be involved, please let us know as soon as poss, thanks.

Dear Friends,

Two Chicks Eid

In February 2017 we paid a visit to Sat Guru Ramana Devi who was holding a multi faith event at the Boo Theater in Rossendale. This included Darshan (to see / behold the divine) with Ramana. Darshan is always open free and open to all. Sri Ramana Devi will be in Leeds on Sunday 12th November from 2pm – 5pm @ Friends Meeting House, New Adel Lane (LS16 6AZ). Everyone is invited ! Ramana is keen to support our work and has kindly invited us to spend some time at her animal sanctuary in Rossendale, so if you’re free or interested in Darshan please come along on Sunday.

Leeds Elemental have their roots in environmentalism & green sustainability, expressed through Art. They have supported the community kitchen garden for well over a year helping us to cover significant expenses and acquire the IVA Convoy. We’re planning to paint the vehicle and have a number of design ideas, be great to hear any ideas / suggestions that you may have!

Sunday 19th November will be the 3rd Sunday of the month where we’ll be attending the Quaker meeting house (off woodhouse lane), for their Sanctuary Lunch which in particular aims to welcome people from the refugee/asylum seeker communities (if you know of anyone, or any have links with any related groups please spread the word), we’ll be there from 12:30 bringing / helping prepare vegan food/treats – please let me know if you’re willing and able to help.

Kirby Misperton Protection Camp – Things are really heating up with Third Energy and their intended fracking operations, no Fracking has taken place in the UK so far thanks to committed activists camping out on the front line – nevertheless there is a big push by the government and drilling company to change this and really put communities at risk by fracking. Now we have the IVA Convoy we’re able to help carry much needed essentials to those on the frontline, please get involved and support in anyway you can.

Its that time of the year where people in the streets feel it most, we still have plenty of supplies we can give at homeless events such as the HAG project, hence we’re still accepting donations – please get in touch if you’re to help or have any ideas or outlets where we could distribute food, clothes etc.

This Sunday Sanctuary Lunch @ Quaker House Woodhouse Lane

On the third sunday of the month (15th October @ 12:30) the religious society of friends (Quakers) hold a sanctuary lunch aimed to be inclusive of refugee and asylum seekers (please invite if you know of anyone). We attended last month and had a great time, all are welcome so please come and bring a dish to add to the table (vegan) that we can all share some positive vibrations. Then afterwards if the weather holds out we could head over the Ahimsa Allotments and maybe have a fire.

Radical Herbalism Gathering Planning 18th Nov

Fourth planning meeting..all welcome, don’t worry if you couldn’t get to the previous ones. We’ll be getting into the different working groups so come along if you want to be involved in organising the gathering (17-18th Feb). If possible it would be handy to have a few laptops so we can have the option to work on things – if you can bring one please do 🙂  If you can’t make it feel free to share your ideas beforehand and get in touch to be kept in the loop/put in the facebook group.
More about the gathering… Let’s put on a radical herbalism gathering in Leeds! There’s lots of interest from students in herbs and alternative medicines so we are really excited to be hosting this.
If you are a Fresher, this is a great chance to get involved right at the start & meet lots of like minded folks in Leeds.
Why ‘radical herbalism’? http://www.radicalherbalism.org.uk/what-is-radical-herbalism/ The hope is to bring together all the skills and knowledge we have in our communities around healthcare & healing so we can support each other & become a more resilient city. One of the aims is to put herbal medicine and health in the context of social change. If you are interested in getting involved in any way (no experience in herbs or organising events is needed, no need to be part of a group-everyone welcome!) then do come along. This is a super inspiring article of what we could achieve here in Leeds

For ideas of what we could do, here’s the programme from this year’s national gathering
