Over 3.5 million tonnes of edible food gets trashed in UK households each year, supermarkets trash a similar amount, which is either incinerated, used as animal feed, or ends up in landfill. Only a fraction of perfectly edible food goes to charitable causes such as ours – primarily because ‘giving’ translates into a potential loss in profits for the big supermarkets. “Want not waste not”!
